A truly special experience is the romantic full-moon cruise in Jadebusen. The cruise departs each evening as the sun sets, so that, weather permitting, you can witness the full moon rising from the water. A special feature of the cruise is the musical entertainment provided for guests as the sun sets.
The 3-hour cruise first heads to the seal rookeries northeast of the Varel mudflats. At low tide, this is the main resting spot for the seals living in the Jadebusen. During the trip, a trawl net is lowered into the water there, giving you a glimpse into the diversity of life in the Wadden Sea. Depending on the catch, you can marvel at fish, starfish, crabs, clams, and other marine life.
The Arngast lighthouse and the skyline of Wilhelmshaven’s Südstrand offer beautiful photo opportunities. Afterward, the Harle Kurier leaves the Jadebusen and heads north to the Jade Weser Port, Germany’s only deep-water port. There, you can observe the port facilities up close against the evening sky.
The tours are led by certified staff from the Wilhelmshaven Visitor Center of the UNESCO Wadden Sea World Heritage Site and last approximately 3 hours.
