Boat Tour: The Wadden Sea, a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site, and Its Importance for East Atlantic Bird Migration

On the cruise aboard the MS "Harle Kurier" during the Migratory Bird Days, the focus is on the diet of the “long-distance flyers.” We’ll explain the birds’ various foraging strategies, offer tips on identifying them, show you their prey under binoculars in our “floating lab,” and share many other interesting facts about the Jade Bay and its animal inhabitants. With a little luck, you might even spot seals during the trip.

We’ll also lower a trawl net into the water so you can discover the diversity of life in the Wadden Sea. Depending on the catch, you’ll be able to marvel at fish, starfish, crabs, clams, and other marine creatures.

We’ll take you on an exciting and interesting excursion where you can learn a lot about the Wadden Sea, a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site, and its importance for East Atlantic bird migration.

The tours are led by certified staff from the UNESCO Wadden Sea World Natural Heritage Site Visitor Center in Wilhelmshaven and last approximately 1.5 hours.
