Gästeführung „Vom Moor zum Meer“ - Ein Blick in die Vergangenheit Rhauderfehns –

Guided historical tour
A fascinating journey through time, exploring the history of Rhauderfehn ...
This guided tour begins at the Westrhauderfehn Drainage and Shipping Museum with a brief walkthrough of the exhibition. Here, you’ll learn the basics about drainage culture, peat extraction, and shipping activities. Afterward, we’ll set out on a walk of about 1.8 km. At various stops along the way, we’ll open a small window into the past for you and share stories from days gone by. Our route takes us past the Sailors’ Monument, the former navigation school, and the lock leading to the Main Fehn Canal, among other sights. At the end of the tour, we’ll board the 118-year-old tjalk “Ebenhaezer” together. In the ship’s cozy, refurbished former cargo hold, we’ll enjoy a delicious matjes sandwich and round out our little excursion into the history of the Fehn with more information about shipping and shipbuilding on the Fehn.
The unguided walk back to the starting point is about 1,000 meters. Note: Instead of the matjes herring sandwich, you can also choose an alternative with salami and/or cheese.
