A unique natural wonder is celebrating an anniversary: The Lower Saxony Wadden Sea National Park is on display right in the heart of Hanover.

In 2026, the Lower Saxony Wadden Sea National Park will celebrate its 40th anniversary. To mark this special milestone, the anniversary exhibition “Nationalpark wirkt!” in the Portikushalle of the Lower Saxony State Parliament invites visitors on a fascinating journey of discovery.

The Wadden Sea is a world-class wilderness—a dynamic habitat that is constantly reinventing itself. With impressive, large-format images and fascinating insights, the exhibition highlights the diverse impacts of this unique protected area. It powerfully demonstrates why preserving the national park is at once a responsibility, a source of joy, and an inspiration.

How the National Park Works – The Six Pillars of the Exhibition:

The exhibition explores the Lower Saxony Wadden Sea National Park and its 40-year success story from six exciting perspectives:

By public transportation from the main train station:
Take subway lines 3, 7, 9, or 13 from the station directly beneath the train station toward Wettbergen, Empelde, or Hemmingen to the “Markthalle/Landtag” stop.

On foot from the main train station:
At the main train station, take the exit toward the city center. It’s a 10-minute walk along Bahnhofstraße and Karmarschstraße to the Lower Saxony State Parliament/Leineschloss, Hannah-Arendt-Platz 1.

By car:
The address to enter into your GPS is 30159 Hannover, Hannah-Arendt-Platz 1. Please note that there are no parking spaces available at the State Parliament. Please use the surrounding parking garages or parking lots.
