Naturpark Dümmer

Nature and experience
The focal point of the nature park is Lake Dümmer, which borders on extensive moorland and is surrounded by the Stemweder Bergen and Dammer Bergen mountains. The diverse landscape of the nature park is home to endangered animal and plant species. The raised bogs and fens with the grassland areas on the edges provide valuable breeding habitat for rare bird species such as the white stork, lapwing, curlew and black-tailed godwit. The area is of international importance as a resting area for migratory birds. Quiet, varied recreation is possible all year round in the entire nature park. The well-developed hiking and cycling trails as well as the water sports area on Lake Dümmer offer many opportunities for leisure activities in both the summer and winter months. You can learn interesting facts about nature on nature trails, the observation towers or by phone. The windmills in Oppenwehe and Levern are an example of typical regional craftsmanship and can be admired not only on the Westphalian Mill Route's milling and baking days. Explore the nature park as you wish and enjoy the attractive landscape.

The nature park is part of the National Natural Landscapes (NNL). In this alliance, Germany's national parks, nature parks, biosphere reserves and wilderness areas preserve fascinating nature together with the people on around a third of Germany's surface area, convey the joy of experiencing nature and shape the future sustainably with confidence. It stands for diversity, tolerance and democracy.
