Following the shoreline of Lake Steinhude, the S1 Ufer-Moorwiesenweg offers a scenic circular route where water and nature blend harmoniously. For long stretches, the path runs directly alongside the lake, allowing visitors to experience the shimmering expanse of water and enjoy open views of the island of Wilhelmstein, a distinctive landmark on the horizon. The trail meanders through peaceful lakeside meadows and moorland landscapes, where reeds sway gently in the breeze, and waterbirds find their habitat in the tranquil shallows. It is a place where serenity and movement meet, ideal for slow exploration by foot, bicycle, or in the company of a dog. Designed to be largely barrier-free, the route invites everyone to take part in this natural experience, regardless of mobility. With well-marked paths and easy accessibility, the S1 Ufer-Moorwiesenweg captures the essence of the Steinhuder Meer Nature Park – a balance between recreation and the quiet beauty of the wetlands. Each step reveals another perspective of the lake, offering both relaxation and gentle adventure in one of Lower Saxony’s most atmospheric landscapes.
