Landscape history trail for people with reduced mobility

The NORDPFAD leads over a geest ridge, past the Wolfsgrund nature reserve - one of the largest contiguous heathland areas outside the Lüneburg Heath, with its inland dunes and hollows; all of which are evidence of the interplay between the warm and ice ages.

Directions

Our tour starts directly at the Wolfsgrund nature reserve, the large heathland area at the foot of the Everser Horn ridge. It is particularly colorful here in August and September, when everything blooms purple and colorful during the heather bloom. We set off and follow the asphalt road. A little later, we reach the barrier-free viewing platform, which is located on the right-hand side. The small Heidetribühne offers a magnificent view of the heather-covered inland dunes. An ideal place to linger for a while.

After this, we continue our tour and reach a collection of granite boulders and a Mitten-Drin bench on the right. The large stones were carried by glaciers over thousands of kilometers from Scandinavia to Wolfsgrund. We follow the asphalt road and reach a small crossroads where there is a second Mitten-Drin bench and a nice place to take a break. A small, non-barrier-free path leads from there to the tree frog biotope of NABU Rotenburg.

The tarmac path continues to the Salzsenke and the  Kleine Senke. The collapse of ice-age underground salt domes once caused the sinkhole of the Salzsenke, in which the Holtumer Moor subsequently formed. There is not much to see of it today; the salt depression is used for agriculture. A little later, behind a bend to the right, you can see the remains of a once large area of heathland that formed around the small depression. The small "canyon" was once created by sand mining.

The next section is accompanied on the left by the wild Weihbusch forest. The cultural highlight of this section of the trail is a prehistoric burial mound, which indicates an early settlement. The route continues slightly "uphill" to a beautiful oak-beech forest on the highest point of a geological ridge, the Everser Horn, which is 54 m above sea level. From the small rest area on the Mitten-Drin bench, you can enjoy a wide view over the village of Eversen and the Wümmen lowlands. With good visibility and weather conditions, you can see as far as the Geestrücken near Söhlingen, around 20 km away. From the hill, we now descend twenty meters in the direction of Eversen. We reach the road "Zum Sandberg". If you wish, you can take an 800 m detour to the left to the town center. The NORDPFAD leads back to the right to the Wolfsgrund nature reserve.

Variant (not barrier-free) - 1.2 km
While part of the group takes the low-barrier path, e.g. a parent with a child in a stroller) and follows the paved road, the group members who are good walkers (e.g. older children) can walk this half-hour alternative until everyone finally meets up again at the granite flints or the Heidetribühne.

The non-accessible variant begins at the starting point of the NORDPFAD and leads through the middle of the Wolfsgrund nature reserve. The narrow path winds its way through the heath and finally reaches a grassy dune valley with seating, reminiscent of a picturesque open-air stage. From there, we keep left and follow a narrow path that leads to the top of one of the characteristic Ice Age basin dunes of the Wolfsgrund. We then walk to the right along the Everser Bach stream and reach the upper edge of the "open-air stage" again. There we descend over the dune top into the sandy area overgrown with heather, following an almost overgrown lane. After around 200 meters, we reach the main path.

Detour (not barrier-free) - 0.2 km
From the Salzsenke, a non-barrier-free path leads to the lush frog biotope 200 m away, which was created by NABU Rotenburg.
