NORDPFAD Timke-Wälder

The hike begins at Landgasthof Willenbrock in Kirchtimke and passes by the noteworthy St. Lambertus Church , the center of Kirchtimke. It’s worth taking a look inside: the 13th-century baptismal font and the early Gothic oak crucifix are something special.

The trail leads out of the village, initially following a narrow path through the fields, past boggy birch forests, and after about 2 km into the Schierk State Forest. Mighty English oaks form a canopy, revealing the cultivated, originally marshy terrain. Nothing disturbs the natural silence of the forest—this dreamlike backdrop accompanies us for the next 2 km. A shelter also offers the ideal spot for a rest.

As we emerge from the forest, a view opens up onto the romantic meadow valley of the Wörpe, and the trail leads us to Ostertimke. The 2-meter-tall red lady’s slipper in a shoemaker’s front yard makes for an extraordinary photo opportunity here. Leaving the village, the trail leads slightly uphill to a geest ridge and continues through vast fields and meadows. Passing the idyllic Wentel Farm, we enter the next forest, the Ummel. An impressive mixed forest with scattered magnificent beech trees takes root in the dry, sandy soil. Here, too, the silence of the forest envelops us until we reach the Ummelbad and the neighboring Waldcampingplatz . In the summer, visitors are drawn there by a refreshing swim and the attractions of the Ummel cafés. The trail leads us through the Ummel and along the edge of the forest for 6 km, mostly on soft ground, back to the starting point Kirchtimke. Two inns here invite you to stop for a cozy break.

Trail Closures
Before your hike, you should check www.nordpfade.de to check for possible detours and trail disruptions that may occur due to flooding, storm damage, or forestry work, for example.

Marker
The marker shows a white "N" on an orange background with the name of the NORDPFAD Timke Wälder.

Signposting
Destination signposts supplement the markings and are placed at prominent points. The signposts list places that are on the route or branch off from it, together with the distance in kilometers. The logo of the respective NORDPFADES is located underneath.

Komoot
We have compiled all 24 circular hiking trails in a separate NORDPFADE collection in the well-known outdoor app. The tours can also be found in the portal under the "Northern Heath" region.
