Directions
The hike begins at Landgasthof Willenbrock in Kirchtimke and leads past the St. Lambertus Church, the center of Kirchtimke. The baptismal font from the 13th century and the early Gothic oak crucifix are well worth a look.
The path leads out of the village, initially partly on a path through the fields, past boggy birch forests and after around 2 km into the Staatsforst Schierk. Mighty English oaks form the roof of the hall and reveal the cultivated, originally moorland location. Nothing disturbs the natural silence of the forest - this dreamlike backdrop accompanies us for the next 2 km. A shelter also offers the ideal place for a rest.
From the forest, the view opens up onto the romantic meadow valley of the Wörpe and the path leads us to Ostertimke. The 2 m tall red ladies' shoe in the front garden of a shoemaker makes for an unusual photo motif here. From the village, the trail leads gently up onto a geest ridge and on through wide fields and meadows. Via the idyllic Hof Wentel, we enter the next forest, the Ummel. An impressive mixed forest with scattered magnificent beech trees takes root on sandy, dry ground. Here too, the silence of the forest envelops us until we reach the Ummelbad and the neighboring forest campsite. In summer, a cool dip and the Ummel café are tempting. Through the Ummel and along the edge of the forest, the path leads us over 6 km on mostly soft ground back to the starting point Kirchtimke. Two inns invite you to enjoy a leisurely break here.
