Wherever you start in Rotenburg, you're soon by the river! With the Wümme, Rodau and Wiedau, three rivers flow through the district town. The town is always present, but at the same time far away, especially when you walk through the meadow, forest and moorland landscapes and reach the Bullensee lakes.

Directions
The NORDPFAD starts in the middle of Rotenburg on the square Am Pferdemarkt, right next to the town hall, where the Tourist Information is also located. We follow the markings, walk past the Rotenburg Tor to the town cross the traffic lights and turn left to Heimathaus Rotenburg, a beautiful ensemble of farmhouses dating back to 1779 with apothecary garden, farm garden and Kneipp basin. A short outdoor tour is really worthwhile here. We continue our hike, pass the wooden bridge of the Mühlenstreek and turn right onto the natural path just behind it. You can still see one of Rotenburg's schools on the left, but it is now much quieter and the town is already "behind us" for the time being.
A little later, we are already in the middle of the lush meadows of the Wümmeniederung. A meadow path leads us to a paved footpath and cycle path, where we turn right to the school bridge. From the stately wooden bridge, you have a great view of the floodplain landscape before descending into the beautiful Ahe forest. Large, impressive beech and oak trees form a trellis for us here. We walk past the Schützenhaus Rotenburg, the restaurant "Am Ahe-Wald" and the former preacher's seminary. At the next signposted crossroads, you would turn right to the Ahe playground and the starting point of the NORDPFAD Wümmeniederung.
However, we turn left, leave the forest and take the paved footpath and cycle path through the wide Wümmeniederung and reach the Wümme again. A small sandy beach invites you to take your first dip. We leave the town via the Gothard Bridge and along the 1.5 km long Star Trail.A nesting box nature trail set up by NABU accompanies us for a while. The town's youth hostel is also on the left. We pass the road "Zur Kumpwisch", where the Sternenweg turns into a near-natural field path. Grassland and farmland now dominate the landscape. At the next crossroads, the field path is replaced by the asphalt road "Am Vieh". We turn left.
We use the grass verge next to it and after approx. 1 km reach the cycle and footpath on the B 215, on which we reach Unterstedt. In the village, where there are several restaurants and overnight accommodation, we carefully cross the unsecured main road near a restaurant. A detour branches off here to the Unterstedter Spieker, a historic ensemble of buildings. We continue through a 30 km/h zone and through the fields and meadows of Unterstedt. An asphalted road, which we follow along the grass verge dotted with fruit trees, finally leads us to Grafeler Holz, where the road turns into a beautiful forest path.
After 700 m, we reach the 400-year-old Hof Grafel, where several animals are already waiting for us. The Peters family's vacation farm is a true idyll on the outskirts of Rotenburg. If required, you can also have your drinking bottles filled with tap water here.
Shortly behind the farm, barely visible, the path runs past a small forest lake. In spring and summer, you can hear the croaking of the frogs and toads that live in the picturesque biotope. From here, the trail continues along forest paths deeper and deeper through the Grafeler Holz. At a fork in the path and coming out of the forest (we continue left), we come across the NORDPFAD Dör't Moor, which now runs parallel to our NORDPFAD for a while. At the edge of the Großer Hamerloh forest and on the edge of the "Großes und Weißes Moor" nature reserve, we get a glimpse of a grazing project run by the town of Rotenburg (Wümme).
We continue our hike to the protected Kleiner Bullensee. After that, it is only a few hundred meters to the Grossen Bullensee, which offers a great resting place for young and old hikers alike with a bathing area and playground. From here, we hike along a wide forest path to the Hartmannshof, 900 m away. The organic farm and farm café run by Rotenburger Werke, a facility for people with disabilities, and the two-hectare NABU-Mitmach- und Erlebnisgarten "MeGa" offers the next beautiful place to take a break and explore extensively.
The route continues along secluded paths through the Lintel forest to the B 440, which we cross carefully and follow for a short distance on the footpath and cycle path before turning right into the Bachenbruch forest. Passing the Tennisclub Grün-Weiß and the riding club, we come across a new development area and shortly afterwards reach the Rodaubrücke bridge, from which you have a wide view of the forest and meadow landscape. We reach the next small river, the Wiedau, through the Rodauniederung. We now follow this river and cross it over the Wiedau bridge.
The two rivers Rodau and Wiedau join near this bridge. They continue to flow as the Mühlen-, Teich- and Stadtstreek until they later flow into the Wümme in Rotenburg after a few hundred meters. We follow the Teichstreek on the right-hand side, walk past the playground and Kantor-Helmke-Haus and reach the neo-Gothic Rotenburg town church, which was built in 1862. Close by is the Cohn Barn, a Jewish museum.
The last stage takes us to and through Rotenburg's pedestrian zone with its numerous stores, restaurants, cafés and works of art. We pass the Stadtstreek with its storage houses on the right, pass the oldest house in Rotenburg, the Rudolf-Schäfer-Haus and finally arrive back at our starting point, the Rotenburger Rathaus direkt Am Pferdemarkt.
