Directions
The NORDPFAD starts at the eastern entrance to Scheeßel railroad station. We leave the town through a small industrial estate and quickly reach a varied landscape of fields, meadows and woodland. The Scheeßeler Holz with its dense mixed and coniferous forest is particularly impressive here.
The hiking trail continues through the Veerseniederung and over the Lünzener Bruchbach. Behind the Westerveseder sports field, we pass the Veerse and hike to the Veerse rest area. With its shelter, benches and table, this is an ideal place to rest before crossing the K 211 and leaving the Veerse valley.
For the next 3.6 km, the NORDPFAD runs along a wide asphalt road that was created as an access road to a former ammunition depot. This low-traffic section of the trail leads through the Lohmoor, which impresses with its multifaceted landscape. A special feature is the dreamlike Gewässerbiotop Großes Lohmoor, which delights with its multi-faceted landscape and past the near-natural still water Lohmoor. An inconspicuous signpost points the way to the observation point.
Through the extensive Lohmoor, the path leads past the Hemslinger Moor nature reserve. The raised bog is being restored today. A rest area invites you to linger. We then approach the birch and pine forest of the Bösenkamper Moor. The grass and moss plants typical of moors are gradually returning here. The route continues on soft ground through the tranquil forest landscape.
A 1.9 km long detour leads from there to Brockel, before we pass the Bartelsdorf wind farm and reach another junction. Another detour, which is signposted a little later, takes you to the Wensebrock dragonfly biotope (starting point 2 of this hike), which is around 950 m away, or to the village of Wensebrock (with a small campsite), which is 1.9 km further on. From this junction, the trail continues through the forest, meadows and farmland, past the Bartelsdorf cemetery and to the village of Bartelsdorf. The old farms and the honey store with its beautiful rest area (in winter, however, this is dismantled "winter-proof") are great here.
We leave Bartelsdorf, cross the Bartelsdorf Canal, return to the meadow-rich valley of the Veerse and reach the n Bartelsdorfer Kirchsteg. This runs as an oak plank footbridge through the floodplain of the Veerse. It is the longest wooden bridge in the NORDPFADE region and was once the most important link between Bartelsdorf and Scheeßel. In summer, the area dries out and when there is high water, the area turns into a large lake.
The last stage leads back to the Scheeßel train station. Before that, however, you pass Hof Bassen where a shop window offers a glimpse into a sow stall. In the adjacent farm shop or in the Melkhus, a dairy restaurant open from May to October, you can enjoy coffee, ice cream, cake and milkshakes. A great place for a last rest. At the end of the hike, Scheeßel, a place that combines the old and the modern, invites you to take an interesting exploration tour and stop off at a few restaurants and cafés.
