Directions

The starting point of the NORDPFAD is a historical gem, theWindmill Henriette in Elm. You can also park on the mill grounds.

After an approx. 700 m long access path, the circular hike begins at the Elmer Hinterholz. We initially hike along a wide, partly asphalted and paved path through this impressive state forest. After approx. 2.5 km, we turn left onto a near-natural path that leads us through the open surrounding grassland and farmland.

We pass the individual farms of Buschdeel, walk along a field path through the middle of farmland until we reach a tarmac road that leads us to the next settlement of Vorhorn . There we leave the road at the first property on the left and turn right onto a field path. The path leads us between fields and meadows along the northern side of the Elmer Hohenmoor. We enjoy the natural tranquillity that emanates from these surroundings and follow the markings to the Oste-Schwinge-Kanal.

The canal offers great views of the wide and quiet Elmer Hohenmoor. A little later, we reach the Hohenmoor bog shelter. The area designed by the Mulsum local heritage association with a peat cutting area behind the hut invites you to take a break before we continue our hike in the direction of Tinster Holz. Shortly before the forest, we turn right. From the small hill, where the Tinster Holz cemetery is located, we have a wonderful view over the Hohenmoor, the Oste-Schwinge Canal and the Elmer Hinterholz forest area.

We now walk along the edge of the forest until we reach individual houses in the Mulsumer Moor. Turning right, we reach the canal again a short time later, which we cross via the small Oste-Schwinge bridge. In contrast to the Hohenmoor, where the canal cuts deep into the moor, here it has the character of an idyllic meadow stream.

Behind the Oste-Schwinge bridge, we return to the Elmer Hinterholz. Keep left at a T-junction and turn right again after about 300 meters. We walk straight ahead and slightly uphill through the increasingly dense forest. At the end, we have reached Elm again. We walk to the next fork in the path and follow the markings and signs back to Windmühle Henriette.
