On the approximately 16 km long route, you go from Höxter past the Höxter-Goedelheim recreational area always along the Weser. The ferry crossing on the Wehrden pedestrian cable ferry is a very special experience. On the other Weser side, it goes back towards Höxter. You should definitely plan a short stop at the Fürstenberg Castle porcelain manufactory.

On the Weser Cycle Path, you ride past the Höxter-Godelheim recreational area. If you already need a refreshment, you should definitely take a short swim stop.

Next, you continue past the mouth of the Nethe past Wehrden Castle to the namesake town. Shortly after the castle, you cross the Weser with a pedestrian cable ferry, an uncommon experience!

The return route on the eastern Weser side leads you past the Fürstenberg steamboat landing. Here, take the short but steep forest path up to the castle (tip: leave the bikes at the bottom). The effort of the climb is rewarded with a panoramic view over the Weser valley from the new viewing platform. Inform yourself in "historic windows" about the castle and manufactory history of the Fürstenberg porcelain manufactory. Later you cycle on the Weser Cycle Path and ride via Boffzen, past the Solling oil mill, comfortably back to Höxter.

Directions

From the Weser Bridge, the route runs along the Weser Cycle Path towards the Höxter-Godelheim recreational facilities and then under the old railway bridge. Afterwards, it passes by Wehrden Castle to the pedestrian cable ferry, which cyclists use to cross to the opposite side of the Weser. On the other bank, the route continues back along the Weser Cycle Path towards Fürstenberg.

If a visit to the porcelain manufactory is planned, follow the forest path from the Fürstenberg steamboat landing up to the castle (tip: leave the bikes at the bottom and climb the hill on foot).

If no visit to the porcelain manufactory is planned, continue straight ahead on the cycle path towards Boffzen. The route runs along the Weser Cycle Path to the right through the town of Boffzen and back to the starting point in Höxter.

Author´s Tip / Recommendation of the author

In addition to the ride with the Wehrden cable ferry, we recommend delving deeper into the "Historic Weserbergland". Of the 16 historic towns and ten historic sites, two lie directly along the route: Höxter and Fürstenberg Castle.

Safety guidelines

No special safety precautions are necessary on the route. For the detour to Fürstenberg Castle, we recommend leaving the bikes at the bottom before the ascent.
