Attention, this route may contain traces of crabs.

A good start for this coastal circular route is the "Windstärke 10" Museum. From here, you cycle through the harbor and the Grimmershörnbucht to the Kugelbake, the wooden landmark of Cuxhaven. From the dike, there is a great view of the Wadden Sea and the Elbe estuary.

Then continue along the dikes, through the coastal heath and the Werner forest towards the Wurster North Sea coast. The picturesque fishing harbors in Spieka-Neufeld and Dorum-Neufeld invite you to take a break.

At the "Obereversand" lighthouse in Dorum-Neufeld, the direction changes and heads inland back towards Cuxhaven.

The route passes the airship and naval aviation museum, the Aeronauticum, and the Ritzebüttel castle (a 14th-century castle). The route ends at the starting point, the "Windstärke 10" Museum.

Author´s Tip / Recommendation of the author

Delicious crab rolls can be found in Spieka-Neufeld at Alwin Kocken, the inventor of the crab peeling machine, or in the harbor of Dorum-Neufeld.

Safety guidelines

The dike partly runs on farm access roads. Agricultural vehicles must be observed.

In Cuxhaven, the bike path passes through the beautiful Grimmershörnbucht. Here there is a supervised bathing area and gastronomy (red tents). Cyclists are requested to dismount at the bathing area. We kindly ask all cyclists to be considerate of children and other bathers here and to push their bikes!
