You could easily end up like the Town Musicians of Bremen, who never made it to the Weser. Because even at the starting point of the bridge cycle path in Osnabrück there is so much to see that you could almost forget to set off. The Town Hall of the Peace of Westphalia on the historic market square, for example, the Erich Maria Remarque Peace Center and the Museum for the painter Felix Nussbaum, designed by star architect Daniel Libeskind. Not forgetting the Museum am Schölerberg, which provides an exciting insight into the first stages of your journey - and is therefore well worth the short detour.
The exhibition vividly shows how the region's landscapes were formed over the course of 300 million years of geological history . It's hard to believe that tropical oceans and ice-age glaciers played a role in this.
Exhibitions in the Dümmer and Wildeshauser Geest nature parks also provide background information on the landscape experience. This allows you to enjoy the tour from the north-westernmost low mountain range in Germany past the Dümmer See and over the ice-age geological ridges around Wildeshausen to the typical North German marshland just before Bremen even more intensively. The site of the Varus Battle is a must for those interested in history. Although the rest of the route is not always about world history, you can experience the everyday life of past eras up close in the Linnenschmidt watermill and the Iron Age house in Venne. Drinking straws and hats were export hits - the world's largest "circular saw" hat with a diameter of five and a half meters is a reminder of this.
How those who made money dishonestly fared can be seen in the former armoury of Vechta Citadel: the prison museum shows the 900-year history of the penal system. The Ocean Bridge just before Bremen does not lead to the land of the free, but only to the Harpstedt district of Amerika. Nevertheless, it is a remarkable structure, as it is the only way to cross the marshy Delmetal valley on dry land. From a safe height, it provides exciting insights into the wetland biotope. From the swamp to the pavement of Bremen's old town - if donkeys, dogs, cats and cockerels knew what they had missed here: The bronze sculpture of the Town Musicians stands right next to the famous Bremen Town Hall. Enjoy the wide range of Bremen's gastronomy. Well fortified, you can then cycle back to Osnabrück via the second route
