This educational forest trail offers a fascinating journey of discovery through the flora and fauna of the "Großer Buchwedel" state forest. The extensive signposting along the approximately 3.5 kilometre circular trail provides detailed information about the diverse natural wonders that populate the forest. A particular highlight is the "Wassermühle" refuge, which borders an extensive valley with a babbling brook - a paradise for children, who can play here to their heart's content. Equally impressive is the large step system, which overcomes a height difference of around 16 metres over a length of 80 metres and offers a breathtaking view.
The Buchwedel impresses with its extensive and varied woodland, which is home to a rich variety of birdlife. Particularly in the northern part of the area, there are stands of swamp forest, wetlands and grasslands. The hilly terrain is criss-crossed by a series of idyllic stream valleys. Among other things, the regulation for the protected area emphasises the preservation and development of the near-natural landscape as a habitat for native animal and plant species. This includes the contiguous forest areas, the extensive deciduous forests and the near-natural meandering watercourses with the neighbouring swamp forests.
