Pilzanker Feuerschiff Weser

Cultural experience/educational trail
Boat trip/Schifffahrt
The mushroom anchor dates back to 1907 and is a rare anchor shape. This anchor is located on the edge of the old harbor right next to the stairs;

This anchor is located at the north-east corner of the quay of the Old Harbour in Hooksiel.

The mushroom anchor is designed for long anchoring times. Due to its bowl-shaped construction, it digs deep into a sandy seabed and is therefore particularly suitable for lightships stationed at a fixed position. When the tide changes from low to high tide, the lightship can "swing" around the anchor and adapt to the opposing currents without the anchor breaking out of the seabed.

The anchor belonged to the lightship "Weser" (originally christened "Norderney").
The lightship was stationed at Norderney, Elbe 1, Elbe 2 and Weser from 1907 to 1981. The last station was in position 510 70` North 080 00` East.
