The only lighthouse that does not send its light out to sea. When the lantern of the disused lighthouse on Memmert was dismantled in 1986, a community of interest got together to save the "Memmertfeuer". However, the beacon is not allowed to direct its light onto the North Sea and the Wadden Sea, as this was not permitted by the Lower Saxony Port Authority. Nevertheless, the people of Juist and also the guests wanted a tower for the beacon. This tower was then erected at the harbour entrance for the beacon. Since the light of the Memmert beacon is not allowed to serve shipping, it can be seen in the longitudinal direction of the island. It is a reminder of the time when it showed sailors the way far out at sea. Only through generous donations from islanders and guests was it possible to build the tower for the Memmert fire. The Memmert lighthouse on Juist was inaugurated at the lighthouse lighting ceremony on 29 December 1992. Since then, the beacon has been shining over Juist every 13 seconds. During the summer months, the lighthouse can be climbed for a small fee of €1.00.
