Does a forest grow if you mix peat with sand? The foresters started the experiment in the Fullen Forest

Children who want to know a lot, adults who are interested in exciting factual topics and families who like to do something together are just right on the 2.5-kilometre-long discovery trails. They experience adventures on their own doorstep and children are encouraged to get out into nature.

At various stations on the forest trail, families and children's groups learn why moorland reforestation is unusual, get to know different tree species and can find out how far hares, foxes and the like can jump at the animal long jump pit - and how far they can jump themselves. Interactive elements on the nature trail also provide exciting and informative stops along the way. Very impressive: the soil profile, which shows a cross-section of the forest floor as a habitat for very different animal species.

On the Fullen moor trail, the natural forestation of moorland areas is explained - and can even be observed: The former moorland area is left to its own devices, so that a steady change in the area can be seen over the years. But there is even more to marvel at: a forest xylophone makes it possible to hear how different types of wood sound. And in the animal observation hut, the young moor experts realized that a lot of patience is needed to avoid scaring off the wild forest animals.

The Fullen Forest is a test site for over twenty native and non-native tree species. The Fullen Forest now covers 285 hectares. A total of 1.3 million trees were sown and planted here between 1980 and 1995 on peat-covered and deep-ploughed areas.

Experiencing adventures, asking questions, getting to the bottom of things - the ZDF children's show "Löwenzahn" has been making children curious about their environment for over 30 years. Together with the Association of German Nature Parks, the TV format repeatedly awards particularly child-friendly nature tours as "Dandelion Discovery Trails". Since 2012, the adventure trails in Fullener Wald/Moor have also been included in this category.
