Klosterkirche St. Maria Riddagshausen

  • Monastery
The Riddagshausen monastery church is one of the oldest Gothic buildings in Germany and is open to visitors by appointment and for personal devotion.

The Cistercian monastery of Riddagshausen was founded in 1145. After a predecessor building was erected in 1216, the foundation stone of the current monastery church was laid. It was consecrated on June 15, 1275 and the Reformation was introduced in 1568. Since then, this monastery church has been a Protestant-Lutheran parish church. It is one of the oldest Gothic buildings in Germany and is open to visitors for a tour and personal devotion. There are also several guided tours and compact tours available for those interested.

The original furnishings of the monastery church have not been preserved due to destruction and plundering and therefore date from the post-Reformation period.
