Hop aboard for a leisurely rail journey on the Heide-Express vintage train. The powerful diesel locomotive and its cars will take you past idyllic towns from Lüneburg via Amelinghausen and Steinbeck to Bispingen. Take the Heide-Express to visit the beautiful vacation destination of Soltau as well. Of course, the Heide-Express is also available for the trip from Soltau via Bispingen to Amelinghausen and on to Lüneburg.

What would a vacation in the Lüneburg Heath be without a visit to the historic salt and Hanseatic city of Lüneburg with its picturesque gabled buildings? Stroll through the enchanting alleys, browse the many different shops, or set out on a sightseeing tour.

TIP NO. 1: WATER TOWER WITH A GREAT VIEW
The best view of Lüneburg and the surrounding region can be enjoyed from the observation deck of the water tower—built in 1906 and 1907—which stands 56 meters high. It’s accessible both on foot and by elevator.

TIP NO. 2: STINT MARKET WITH THE OLD CRANE
The old crane, one of Lüneburg’s landmarks alongside City Hall, is a reminder of the time when Lüneburg’s “white gold” (salt) was loaded here and smelt (fish) was traded. Today, the “Stint” is one of the city’s most popular bar districts.

TIP NO. 3: PLATZ AM SANDE
Platz am Sande is lined with magnificent townhouses featuring all kinds of Lüneburg gables from a wide variety of eras and architectural styles. It is considered one of the most significant medieval squares in Germany.
