Norderney airfield is the commercial airfield of Norderney. Motor gliders, motor airplanes up to 5700 kg, ultralight airplanes and helicopters up to 10,000 kg have permission to land on the airfield. Twin-engine propeller planes and smaller jet airplanes are also able to land at the Norderney airfield. The air sports club was founded in 1957 and still uses the airfield for flying today. The airport was opened in 1970.
