Deutsches Sielhafenmuseum

Maritime museum
The German Sielhafen Museum invites its guests on a journey into the past.
A special culture, which was characterized by merchant shipping under sail, developed in the 19th century in the seaports on the German North Sea coast. From the small coastal towns, the skippers and their crews, and sometimes also their families, traveled not only along the local coasts, but all over the world.
From there, they brought back impressions, experiences and souvenirs. The German Seaport Museum is dedicated to this culture.

It shows everyday life on board with the dangers to which the skippers were exposed, but also the opportunities to get to know the world. The living culture of the captain's families with their sense of status and their maritime lifestyle comes to life, interwoven with their stories.

The museum appeals to all the senses, with many interactive and multimedia offers as well as a water learning station available for our guests.
Four historic buildings, a museum harbor with traditional sailing ships and the museum cutter GEBRÜDER invite you to travel back in time to the heyday of merchant shipping under sail.

With the redesign, we have also significantly improved the visitor service. There are checkrooms and lockers, disabled toilets in all three museum buildings, elevators in the Alte Pastorei and Groot Hus, plenty of seating and a museum store in the Groot Hus. We also offer an audio guide in German, English and easy language, which you can download to your tablet or smartphone https://kulturaufnahme-webapp.de/project/b55125a0/
