Wangerländer Deichleuchten

Other tradition, custom, folk festival
It's this special moment that gets us every year on New Year's Eve
when we leave the old year behind and the new year begins. Since 2022, the "Wangerländer Deichleuchten" has been held annually on New Year's Eve. From now on, the new year should be rung in in a contemplative, decelerated and at the same time pure and enchanting way. Guests and locals are invited to gather on the dikes of Wangerland and light up a wide variety of illuminants at 12 o'clock sharp. Whether oil lamps, wax torches or battery-powered fairy lights. Together, we look out over the sea and welcome the year 2026 with the lighting of a wide variety of illuminants at midnight.

The connection with nature and animals, as well as the gratitude of being located directly on the UNESCO World Heritage Site, makes an environmentally friendly and considerate alternative to fireworks unavoidable. The desire for an atmospheric, heart-warming alternative has therefore grown steadily.

The shared experience is enhanced by local dyke sponsors who are on site as contact persons, accompany the countdown and offer hot drinks.

The focus of the Wangerländer Deichleuchtens is on enjoying this special moment together right by the North Sea.
