For centuries, water power was the most important source of energy at and in the Rammelsberg ore mine. An impressive testimony to this is the Roeder system, designed by the head miner Johann Christoph Roeder. It consisted of underground watercourses, shafts and drive wheels and provided Rammelsberg mining with a high level of efficiency in the 19th century.
