Reading with music on World Book Day
Reading and more

Which languages are better at conveying human emotions, from anger to sadness to love, than Romance languages? This will be demonstrated by students from the Institute of Romance Studies - including translation, of course. Afterwards, there will be a typical regional buffet for sharing ideas.

Since 1995, April 23 has been UNESCO's day of action for reading, books, the culture of the written word and the rights of their authors. In Catalonia, this day merged with the feast day of Sant Jordi (St. George). In Osnabrück, students of Romance studies present texts, music and other artistic contributions in self-created formats, this year on the theme of emotions.

The music for the evening comes from the band Guayoyo: Emanuel Gonçalves (vocals/lyrics), Jens Buschenlage (trumpet), Jonas Hoffmann de Ramos (electric guitar/composition/lyrics), Milan Gjakonovski (bass) and Nikolas Weikamp (drums). The Guayoyo Quintett is a young jazz formation from Osnabrück. The five musicians combine modern jazz sounds with influences from their cultural backgrounds - for example from Venezuela or Peru. The result is a multi-faceted sound that is infused with Latin American rhythms and colors.
