The Wadden Sea is of great importance for bird migration. Ten to twelve million birds use the mudflats each year as a resting place on their journey. Here, you can observe all the action in a very small area. About half of our native breeding birds migrate to warmer regions in the winter, while at the same time, Germany welcomes birds arriving from northern and eastern regions in the fall and winter. On their arduous and perilous journey, the birds sometimes travel thousands of kilometers, crossing oceans and deserts along the way. Certified National Park bird guide Hans-Jürgen Haller provides information about these extraordinary feats and the dangers they face on their long journey. He will provide a brief introduction to the world of migratory birds, featuring many pictures.
