The Wallholländer windmill, which stands free on the hill and can be seen from afar, was built in 1870 by the farmer Mölk. The miller was Casper Menke until 1889, followed by Friedrich Menke and Heinrich in 1935. The mill had been wingless since 1933 and since then had been powered by an electric motor.
After grinding operations finally ceased in the mid-1970s, the ravages of time took their toll on the disused mill building. Wild ivy and bushes entwined the stone torso of the mill up to the cap and formed a green wall of leaves, which prevented worse damage to the walls and kept the mill in a restorable condition. The grinding equipment was also still in good condition. At the end of 1985, the "Verein zur Restaurierung und Erhaltung der Westhoyeler Windmühle e.V." (Association for the Restoration and Preservation of the Westhoyel Windmill) was founded, which took the mill into its care through a lease agreement. The restoration of the mill and its financing, in which the state of Lower Saxony, the district of Osnabrück and the Osnabrück Regional Association generously participated, was precisely planned on the basis of the old, worn-out mill parts. After several years of work, the mill was restored with great dedication by the members of the mill association, so that on Whit Monday 1990 the mill could be inaugurated again with the mill blades turning in the wind.
In 1992, the repaired miller's house could be used by the association again. The association then set to work rebuilding a half-timbered bakehouse from the immediate vicinity dating back to 1848 on the site.
Bread and cakes are baked here at Whitsun on the milling and baking days, so that the path to bread can be vividly illustrated. Baking demonstrations are also held in the bakehouse for kindergartens, schools and equally interested adult groups by appointment.
