In “Mutter,” Aline Valangin chronologically recounts her turbulent, thirty-two-year relationship with her mother. The diary entry “Mother” was originally written in 1921, but was first published in 2001 and reprinted by Limmat Verlag in 2026.

Aline Valangin (1880–1986), trained as a pianist, ran a salon for the artistic avant-garde in Zurich during the 1930s. She worked as a psychoanalyst, journalist, and writer. She lived in Ticino starting in 1936. Her work has only been rediscovered in recent years.
