Galliviehmarkt
The traditional Galli cattle market has been held in Leer since 1508. In addition to the colorful supporting program of the Gallimarkt, the Galliviehmarkt takes place on the grounds of the Verein Ostfriesischer Stammviehzüchter.
The market is unique in its character and is one of the largest livestock markets in Europe. Not only from all over Germany, but also from neighboring countries, traders and spectators meet once a year in Leer for the Galliviehmarkt. There are even traders who have been attending the market for more than 45 years.
More than a hundred livestock traders from the East Frisian region and neighboring districts were contacted by the market administration and informed about this year's Galliviehmarkt.
The colorful hustle and bustle in and around the Galliviehmarkt as well as the small animal exhibition or the "rolling museum" from Münkeboe is also interesting. For example, coopers, blacksmiths and wheelwrights will demonstrate how and under what circumstances work was carried out in the past.
Spectators will be particularly interested in the purchase negotiations, which are still carried out here by handshake, just like in the old days.
The drive begins on Tuesday, 13.10.2026 from 3.00 pm and on Wednesday, 14.10.2026, from 6.00 am.
The actual cattle market will take place on Wednesday, 14.10.2026, from 6.00 am.
So if you want to experience the special "flair" of the Galli cattle market, you must not get up late. If you are interested in selling, you must make your way to the Galliviehmarkt in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
