Walking / hiking
A mudflat hike for the whole family.
On the family mudflat hike, we’ll walk toward the tidal channel or the main channel, depending on the water level and weather. At the main channel, we’ll use dip nets—which you can bring along or buy at the meeting point—to catch fish and crabs, which we’ll examine and then release back into the water. Mudflat tour led by a state-certified mudflat guide. Don’t forget your camera or smartphone!

Clothing: Depending on the weather, bring a rain jacket or strong sun protection and a hat. Rubber boots may be worn and are available for rent at the mudflat guide hut for €4. Please note:  At temperatures of approximately 25 degrees or higher, we do NOT rent out rubber boots for hygienic reasons.

On March 15 and 23, 2026, our environmental theme weeks titled “Lüttje Schritte, Grote Wark” will begin.

Wear long pants in winter; in summer, ideally shorts and beachies. Beachies (mudflat socks) can be purchased at the meeting point. Walking barefoot is not recommended due to the risk of cuts from shells.

Nets and buckets for collecting can be purchased at the mudflat guide’s hut.

People with disabilities can use the mudflat cart; for children, we have three “kids’ taxis” available for rent on site. Please reserve in advance if needed.

Route: approx. 1.5 kilometers
