Es war Mord! - Wahre Verbrechen der Zeitgeschichte

  • Operetta
With “It Was Murder!”, we combine true crime, classical music, and contemporary political history into an extraordinary evening of concert entertainment. What has captivated millions as a podcast or streaming format, we bring to the stage in a concentrated form: compelling, reflective, and musically distilled.
At the heart of our evening are four real-life cases from the 20th and 21st centuries:
Matthias Erzberger—Reich Minister of Finance, peace negotiator, and victim of a far-right assassination in 1921. His murder marked a fateful turning point for the young Weimar Republic.
Hans Litten—the brilliant lawyer who cornered Adolf Hitler as a witness in court in 1931. After the National Socialists seized power, he was arrested, deported to several concentration camps, and systematically abused. While in captivity, it was above all the music of Johann Sebastian Bach that gave him strength and helped him preserve his inner dignity—a form of spiritual resistance against dehumanization that sustained him until the very end.
Petra Kelly – Co-founder of the Green Party and a symbolic figure of the peace movement of the 1980s. Her death in 1992 continues to raise questions to this day and epitomizes the tensions and fractures of an era.
Anna Politkovskaya – An investigative journalist who fearlessly reported on the Chechen wars and exposed systematic human rights violations. She was murdered in Moscow in 2006. The anniversary of her death falls on October 7, Vladimir Putin’s birthday—a circumstance that continues to raise questions to this day.
