Colorful giants in the sky above Dangast Beach

Fall is just around the corner—it’s often a bit windier now, and kite season is beginning.
From September 5 to 6, the sky above Dangast Beach will once again be filled with color. Kite flyers from all over Germany—and, of course, from the surrounding Friesland region—will arrive with their extraordinary kites and fill the sky above Dangast Beach with their colorful giant kites.
Over 30 kite enthusiasts have announced their participation and will launch their kites into the air.
Large kites measuring up to 20 meters in length will be on display, as well as steerable kites and box kites.
Octopuses, fish, kraken, and other sea creatures will be visible in the sky, as well as owls, the superhero Batman, and other cartoon stars.

On September 5 and 6, visitors will have the opportunity to receive instruction in stunt kite flying from a professional kite flyer, perhaps discovering a new passion for the sport.

Another highlight will take place on Saturday evening. As darkness falls, the kites will once again appear in a very special light and be visible. Whether illuminated by spotlights or glowing on their own, the kites will soar into the darkness. The illuminated kites are particularly impressive against the backdrop of the Wadden Sea World Heritage Site and the brightly lit city of Wilhelmshaven on the other side of the Jade Bay. Spectators particularly enjoy watching this spectacle from the dike.
Admission to the kite festival in Dangast is free.
Sat., Sept. 5, 2026  11:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., followed by a night flight show at dusk
