Dinner mit Gans und Kiebitz auf der Luneplate – Exkursion mit anschließendem Barbecue

Because the Luneplate is located near the mouth of the Weser River, it serves as a valuable habitat for many species of waterfowl and wading birds. Many birds regularly visit the Luneplate as a foraging area, roosting site, and resting place during high tide. Furthermore, migratory birds also rest and overwinter here, as the mudflats are just a wingbeat away.

Accompanied by the experienced ornithologist Waltraud Menger, participants will explore expansive grasslands interspersed with shallow water areas, as well as a tidal polder with dynamic tidal conditions. We’ll travel to these areas by vehicle and take occasional walks. Each bird species spotted will be thoroughly introduced and explained, allowing for a better understanding of their behavior and way of life. A view over the dike to the mudflats of the Outer Weser also provides an opportunity to observe wading birds.

To conclude, a delicious organic barbecue (including vegetarian options) will be served at the observation tower. There, in a relaxed setting, everyone can reflect on their observations and experiences. Afterward, you’ll be brought back to the starting point of the excursion.

There is a free shuttle from the Wurster North Sea Coast National Park Center to the meeting point at Luneplate. It departs from the National Park Center at 3:00 p.m. Please let us know when you register if you would like to use the shuttle.

The barbecue is sustainable: the steak and bratwurst come from locally raised Galloway cattle in near-natural conditions; side dishes and beverages are predominantly regional and organically grown. Equivalent meat-free alternatives are available for vegetarians.

Equipment: Be sure to wear warm, weatherproof clothing and, if you have them, bring binoculars.

Accessibility information: The walking trails at the various stops are approximately 1.5 km long and mostly follow paved paths. The observation hide has step-free access and provides seating. There is no restroom.
