Die Fehnschifffahrt - Gästeführung mit Schiffsbesichtigung

On our “Fehnschifffahrt” tour, we invite you to learn more about the history of Fehnschifffahrt. We’ll explore the historical and contemporary significance of the lock and the sluice gate, the former shipyard in the harbor district, and the old company house; we’ll learn about the different types of Fehn bridges and discuss  about the types of ships and the many craft workshops associated with Fehn shipping that once thrived along the Fehn. At the end of our tour, we’ll visit the over 110-year-old tjalk, the Ebenhaezer von Rhauderfehn, which is anchored in the harbor of Westrhauderfehn and today serves as a landmark of our over 250-year-old Fehn community.
Description:
Our tour guide will welcome you at the paddle and pedal boat station near the Café am Siel in Rhauderfehn (Am Siel 6a, 26817 Rhauderfehn). Over a cup of coffee or tea, listen to the tour guide as they provide information about the planned tour and explain the historical significance of the place where you are standing. After all, it was from here that the first settlers dug their way into the moor, and it was here that the history of Fehn shipping began.
We’ll learn more about the former shipyard and discover the significance of the Siel gates. Afterward, we’ll visit the lock, learn about the once-imposing “Zeldenrüst” windmill and the Companiehaus, as well as the Fehn bridges. Then we’ll walk to the Ebenhaezer. There, we’ll be greeted by the ship’s captain, who will share the history of this old flat-bottomed boat, a tjalk. Here, we’ll have the chance to take the ship’s wheel ourselves. Then we’ll go below deck and, while enjoying delicious matjes sandwiches, listen to the crew’s exciting tales of real or imagined seafaring adventures. Drinks are available on board to quench our thirst.
Included:
Guided tour with a visit to the lock, guided tour of the ship, and a matjes meal with rolls. Beverages on board are not included in the price and may be paid for by guests on board via a donation.
