The former border tower and the bunker next to it are open from April through September every third Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., on September 13 September, Open Monument Day, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and on October 3 from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. for visitors.

The town of Bleckede was divided for over 40 years: The districts of Neu Bleckede and Neu Wendischthun belonged to the GDR until reunification. The exhibition in the bunker, the border tower, and outdoors brings a piece of contemporary history to life. In the “Gallery of History” in the former GDR observation bunker FB-3, visitors are immersed in the regional history of division and reunification.

The exhibition in the former GDR observation tower BT-9 (4×4) preserves the memories of local eyewitnesses, traces the history embedded in the landscape, and encourages visitors to engage with history, the present, and the future. From the observation deck of the border tower, visitors can enjoy unique views of the Elbe River and the landscape of the Lower Saxony Elbe Floodplain Biosphere Reserve, the town of Bleckede, and the ferry that has been operating again since the border opened in 1989.
