Danceperados of Irland

Danceparados

The enthusiasm for Irish tap dancing is already evident in the
name: Danceperados—loosely translated as “the dance-crazy ones.” The Irish
simply can’t help but dance, sing, and play—
it’s in their blood.
Topic: The Irish Travellers
In the program “Life, Love, and Lore of the Irish Travellers,” the
Danceperados turn their attention to the Irish nomads. The Travellers are
an isolated minority with unusual customs and ri-
tuals. Many people know them from historical films, where they are shown traveling through the countryside with horses and
covered wagons. Superstition and family honor play a major role in their lives, just as dance and
music do. Some of Ireland’s greatest musicians and dancers were or are
“Travelers.” Had the Irish nomads not held fast to their traditions even in times when
their subculture was viewed as backward, Irish folk music might well have disappeared
from the scene.
Much like Native Americans, the Travellers
also had to endure the loss of their way of life. Yet from this nomadic culture
a unique musical power emerged. The Dan-
ceperados tell their story through moving songs, expressive
dances, and an impressive multivision
presentation. This unique combination of dance, music, and visual
elements creates an atmosphere that moves
and captivates the audience.
All live—with no safety net
The Danceperados are distinctly different from many other
productions: Here, everything is performed and danced live. No playback,
no stage illusions—instead, spontaneity, improvisation,
and genuine energy. The audience feels this authenticity immediately.
The ensemble brings together some of Ireland’s best female dancers: Together,
they have won over 40 World Dancing Champion and
All-Ireland titles. Michael Donnellan, himself a multiple World Champion, is responsible
for the choreography. Musical
direction is provided by accordion virtuoso Eimhin Liddy, accompanied
by a quintet of award-winning musicians, including All
Ireland Champions.
Enthusiasm from audiences and the media
—as evidenced by standing ovations and rave reviews—proves that the Dancepe-
rados have succeeded in perfectly blending culture and entertainment.
For 15 years, this concept has been delighting audiences and the press alike.
