"Auf den Spuren von Jan Klein"- Geführte Radtour auf dem Ostfriesland-Wanderweg mit Besichtigung des Biolandhofes Freese
Where steam locomotives once puffed along, we now enjoy the idyllic scenery: Follow us along the former track bed of the legendary Ihrhove–Westrhauderfehn narrow-gauge railway. Experience a journey back in time through the Overledingerland, rich in history, nature, and authentic East Frisian cuisine.
Our tour guide and our bike scouts will meet us at the former Westrhauderfehn train station—now the bus station—and the operations building of the Leer District Public Transportation Authority.
Then we’ll ride along the East Frisia Hiking Trail to Rhaude and the Musik-Café Marienheil, where we’ll learn a great deal about the history of the former narrow-gauge railway and its impact on the surrounding communities during a talk accompanied by tea and cake.
Back on the trail, we briefly leave the hiking trail to visit the mill in Collinghorst—rebuilt in 1945 and now operating as a mill and agricultural supply store. Two sets of millstones are still in operation at the mill, where grain is processed into flour and grist according to time-honored tradition. Afterward, at the former train station, we can marvel at the replica of the ticket booth and the restored tracks. Right next to it lies a green gem! On the nature trail, we can discover the unspoiled East Frisian landscape, wetland habitats, a willow tunnel, and a large insect hotel. At the former terminus of the railroad in Ihrhove, a delicious meal awaits us at the Dorfkrug (fried potatoes with tender matjes herring).
Afterward, we’ll head back and leave the hiking trail in Glansdorf. Then we’ll drive through Collinghorst, Schatteburg, Holte, and Rhaude to Rhaudermoor, turn onto Neuen Weg, and then onto Batzenweg, which we’ll take. There, we’ll tour the Freese family’s organic farm. We’ll learn a lot about the farm, visit the fields near the farm and the livestock areas, and take a tour of the greenhouses and fruit orchards. The tour will conclude with an open and friendly discussion over a light snack.
