Archery during Nature Week
Nature lovers—or those who want to become one—take note: Nature Week is taking place in Lower Saxony from June 13 to 28, 2026, and you can participate for free!
We’ll be at the medieval village of Steinrode on Friday, June 19, starting at 4:30 p.m.: With bow and arrow. For thousands of years, hunting wild animals was essential for people’s nutrition and survival. Today things are different, yet people still hunt. Why is that, actually? Why is hunting important for the forest today? What was hunting like in the Middle Ages, and how is it today? Our medieval hunter and archer will talk about this before we get started making our own bows and arrows. We’ll be making children’s bows, and for safety’s sake, the arrows will have corks instead of tips. Afterward, the children can try shooting at blown-out eggs with their bows and arrows. Adults will have the chance to try hitting the target with a “real” bow at the shooting range under expert guidance.
Our program is aimed at adults with children in elementary school and older. Please register by email at info@steinrode.de. Nature Week is an initiative of the Lower Saxony Bingo Environmental Foundation (NBU) in cooperation with BINGO! – The Environmental Lottery, which is supported by many different organizations and individuals from Lower Saxony. The main goal is to create nature experiences to reconnect people—and especially children—with nature. Over 1,000 events offering nature experiences are available throughout the state: from forest walks and bat tours to canoe trips—the selection is diverse. An overview of the offers, which are free for participants, is available at https://www.bingo-umweltlotterie.de/woche-der-natur. The NBU is an environmental foundation established by the State of Lower Saxony, funded by gambling levies and, for the most part, by proceeds from BINGO! – The Environmental Lottery (www.bingo-umweltstiftung.de). It supports environmental and nature conservation projects as well as projects promoting development cooperation and historic preservation.
