"A house makes history" - guided tour on "Open Monument Day"
The so-called manor house on Klostervorplatz in Walkenried was formerly the residential and administrative building of the tenants of the monastery domain. It was built in 1854 by the well-known architect and Blankenburg district architect Carl Frühling in the neoclassical style, and its special features include the imposing wooden staircase leading to the upper floor through a stately stairwell, as well as the hunting room - a hall decorated with animal friezes. Today, the manor house is home to the World Heritage Information Center and houses an interactive exhibition on the UNESCO World Heritage Site in the Harz Mountains.
On the occasion of the Open Monument Day, there is a free guided tour of the history of the manor house's construction and use.
