Heideschleife Angelbecksteich
A picturesque pond on the edge of a small area of heathland is something special in the Lüneburg Heath. It is surrounded by gentle hills, small birch and pine trees. A short, barrier-free circular trail leads around Angelbecksteich and through the adjacent heathland, which is also suitable for wheelchair users and visually impaired people.
The idyllic, varied landscape around Angelbecksteich delights every visitor. The Heideschleife, a barrier-free walking trail, circles the pond. Different perspectives. Always new facets of the beguilingly beautiful combination of water, trees and heath. The regularly grown pine forest on the edge of the small heath area provides a hint of the pond's dramatic history. In 1975, the great fire that destroyed a total of 7,000 hectares of forest in the southern heath broke out near the present-day pond. Angelbecksteich is an artificial pond that was primarily intended to serve as a fire-fighting pond.
Take the shortest route to the pond on the left? Right through the heath? Both are beautiful. On the right, the path runs smoothly and evenly in a large arc through the heath. A few birch and pine trees here and there. Gentle, variedly overgrown hills towards the pond. A boulder greets you from above, which can be reached quickly via a short detour (not barrier-free). It is a memorial stone commemorating the forest fire disaster. From above, there is a view of the tree-lined Angelbeck pond.
The path around the pond is designed for people with limited mobility and the visually impaired. Flat and easy to navigate with a wheelchair or walking frame. Benches at regular intervals. Tactile wood as path markers. Information in Braille. A hiking trail for everyone.
A small bridge at the eastern end. The Angelbach stream. It feeds the pond with its water and gave it its name. The path now runs directly along the bank. A few birches and alders have settled here. The other side is bordered by pine forest. A footbridge leads to the water, allowing a direct view into the pond. A few hundred meters further on, after the bridge over the Angelbach stream, there is a pavilion over the water. Nice view of the birches and junipers on the other side of the lake. There, at the southern end of the lake, is a resting place under shady birch trees. This is a great place to linger. The wind rustles in the leaves and ripples the dark water. And it's only a few meters to the parking lot.
