According to legend, Löwenburg Castle was built by the Counts of Dassel as a hunting lodge. Around 1250, it is mentioned in a change of ownership to the Guelphs and served as the administrative seat of the Lauenburg office of the Dukes of Brunswick-Lüneburg from 1399 to 1530.

- Getting thereFrom the parking lot (sports field) on Kirchweg, continue straight ahead along the main road into Sohnreystraße and continue in the direction of Bender Weg. On the left-hand side you will now see a wooden sign labeled Burgstraße. Walk up the small tarred road and follow the signs directly to Löwenburg Castle.

If you want to cool off after the hike, you can take a detour to the Lauenberger Badesee make. (Detour approx. 1 km.)
There is a small kiosk, sanitary facilities and the camper van site at Lauenberg bathing lake.
