The "Bremervörde-Bremerhaven alternative route" offers a real shortcut to the 450 km "From the Devil's Moor to the Wadden Sea" cycle route. It runs through the wide fields and meadows of the Geest, which is criss-crossed by small streams and sections of forest and takes you to idyllic villages and bathing lakes. After the cycle tour, you can take the EVB train back to your starting point.
Combine the alternative route with the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen, the artists' village of Worpswede, the resort town of Bremervörde and the seaside town of Bremerhaven. You can discover the Teufelsmoor and the Weser region on the approximately 230 km long southern "Teufelsmoor" circuit, which is best started at Bremen Central Station. The Wadden Sea, Elbe and the Altes Land region, on the other hand, are the focus of the approximately 250 to 280 km long northern "Wadden Sea" circuit. This connects Bremerhaven with the towns of Bremervörde, Stade, Otterndorf and Cuxhaven.

You can start the alternative route in Bremervörde or Bremerhaven and cover the route as a track. After the tour, you can take the EVB train for the return journey, which connects the two towns. Or simply combine the 66 km alternative route - depending on your preference - with the southern or northern main route of the "From the Devil's Moor to the Wadden Sea" cycle trail. Instead of the full 450 km, you halve the total distance. The southern circuit takes you through the extensive Teufelsmoor. The northern circuit takes you to the Wadden Sea UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The circular tour, connects the southern section of the cycle route with the Bremervörde-Bremen alternative route and starts at Bremervörde main station. It runs anti-clockwise and first leads through the stately Bremen Bürgerpark, past the Stadtwaldsee lake and through the green Wümmewiesen to the artists' village of Worpswede. 100 years ago, numerous artists settled here, such as Heinrich Vogeler and Paula Modersohn-Becker, who were inspired by the mystical landscape of the Teufelsmoor. Over the course of time, the once 600 square meter raised bog was cultivated and gave way to meadows and fields. However, the impressive expanse has remained. Via the moor metropolis of Gnarrenburg and the moor village of Augustendorf, the route continues to the impressive Huvenhoopsmoor nature reserve. The next section of the route follows the Oste through a fascinating cultural and natural landscape to the recreational town of Bremervörde. The town on the Oste offers a great nature experience with the nature and adventure park on Lake Vörder. Here you leave the main route and follow the alternative route, through a landscape of fields, forests and meadows, tranquil villages, past streams and lakes,to Bremerhaven. Explore the lively seaside town with its impressive and exciting harbor worlds and take a look over the dyke where the Weser flows into the North Sea. On the last stage, you follow the course of the Weser via Dedesdorf, Sandstedt and Bremen-Vegesack and along the Lesum and Wümme to Bremen. The historic heart of the Free Hanseatic City is the market square with the UNSESCO World Heritage Town Hall and Roland statue and St. Peter's Cathedral. Nearby you will also find the Bremen Town Musicians, the winding old town quarter "Schnoor" and the Weser promenade with its numerous restaurants.

The circular tour consists of the northern section of the cycle route and the alternative route Bremerhaven-Bremervörde. Start at the Historical Museum in Bremerhaven and follow the alternative route anticlockwise through the districts of Geestemünde and Surheide to Appeler See. From there, the cycle route leads through tranquil villages such as Beverstedt, Kirchwistedt and Oerel and through a varied landscape of fields and meadows to the recreational town of Bremervörde. This offers a great nature experience with the nature and adventure park on Lake Vörder. In the town on the Oste, you join the main route and follow it through the wide Geestlandschadft to the Hanseatic city of Stade. Here it is worth taking a stroll through the winding streets of the old town.
From Stade, the route follows the course of the Oste, which meanders gently towards the Elbe, to the Elbfähranleger Wischhafen. The route leads through the Old Country, the largest fruit-growing region in Germany. The northernmost section of the cycle route begins in Freiburg an der Elbe and takes you parallel to the Elbe via the picturesque half-timbered towns of Freiburg and Otterndorf, the Oste barrage and the Natureum Niederelbe to Cuxhaven. Here, the "Alte Liebe" viewing platform offers a sweeping view of the North Sea or the UNESCO Wadden Sea World Heritage Site. The last stage of the circular route leads from the coast inland and into the Ahlenmoor nature reserve. The route then continues towards Bad Bederkesa and Bremerhaven. With the Havenwelten, the seaside town offers exciting museums, all within walking distance, which you should take the time to visit.

Want to get there by bike? There are a number of long-distance cycle routes that connect to the "From the Devil's Moor to the Wadden Sea" cycle route or run parallel to it for a stretch.
In Bremen, the cycle route meets the Weser-Radweg, the Brückenradweg Osnabrück-Bremen, the Wümme cycle path and the Hamburg-Bremen long-distance cycle path. Some of these long-distance cycle paths also run parallel to the cycle path. In Stade, the cycle path meets the Elberadweg and the Nordseeküsten-Radweg and runs parallel to them in places. From Bremerhaven the route runs parallel to Weser cycle path and the Nordseeküsten-Radweg. Also in the area of the Wesermarsch run various long-distance cycle routes, such as the Weser Cycle Route, the North Sea Coast Cycle Route and the German Sielroute in sections synchronized with the cycle route From the Devil's Moor to the Wadden Sea.
Viele Orte am Radwanderweg sind bestens mit Bahn und Bus erreich- und kombinierbar. Parallel zu jeder Etappe verläuft eine Bahn- oder Buslinie, auf die man zurückgreifen kann und wodurch attraktive Tagestouren möglich sind. Eine Fahrradmitnahme ist spontan oder unter Vorbestellung möglich, die Fahrradplätze sind jedoch begrenzt. So auch im Land zwischen Elbe und Weser mit dem wunderschönen Radwanderweg „Vom Teufelsmoor zum Wattenmeer“, der von der NABU-Umweltpyramide Bremervörde zusammen mit den Tourismusregionen am Radwanderweg konzipiert und gestaltet wurde.
Naturnahe Landschaften, vielfältige Flora und nicht zuletzt zahlreiche heimische Tiere gibt es auf dem Radrundweg zu entdecken. Aus diesem Grund leitet auch der Kiebitz als Wappentier auf den Wegweisern des Radweges durch die abwechslungsreiche Region.
Auch hier setzt sich der NABU in vielfältiger Weise für die Bewahrung der Heimat ein – so für die letzten Moore, in denen Goldregenpfeifer und Sonnentau am Rande des Verschwindens stehen, für das Wattenmeer als Drehscheibe des internationalen Vogelzugs und Kinderstube der Fische, für die Feuchtwiesen der Niederungen mit Kiebitz, Brachvogel und Orchideen, für traditionelle Hecken als Brutreviere für Rotkelchen, Braunelle und Goldammer und für die reichen Wälder der Geest mit ihrer eigenen Artenfülle.

Elbe-Radwanderbus
The leisure bus with bicycle trailer tours the Altes Land vacation region on the Elbe river every day from mid-April to the beginning of October at weekends and on public holidays. It connects the towns near the Elbe and runs from Harsefeld via Jork, Stade and Wischhafen to the estuary at Balje. Tickets are available on the bus, the stops are marked with the bus logo.
