Are there whales in the North Sea? How does a sperm whale get to Norderney? Where do gannets live and which route does the knot take on its "winter vacation"? What does a starfish actually look like from below? The Waloseum informs visitors about the inhabitants of the North Sea coast through various hands-on exhibitions.
The focus of the exhibition is the prepared skeleton of a 15-metre-long sperm whale bull that stranded off Norderney in 2003. Listen to its songs, travel through time with the whales and marvel at their development in the "Experience underwater worlds" exhibition. Fantastic impressions from the realm of whales and dolphins await you.
The upper floor is dedicated to the inhabitants of the North Sea and the bird life of the North Sea coast. Discover the adaptability and diversity of the unique habitat of the Lower Saxony Wadden Sea.
A special exhibition illustrates the history of the "Coastal Radio Station Norddeich Radio", in whose former building the Waloseum is located. Here, visitors can operate the largest detector radio in the world.
The Whaloseum also houses the quarantine station of the seal sanctuary. Here, small seals and sometimes grey seals are given seasonal veterinary care and observed before they are brought to the seal station to join the other animals.
