Here, the period of peatland colonization from 1780 to the reclamation of the 10,000-hectare Wiesmoor from 1906 is brought to life.
A museum train takes visitors on converted peat wagons through the landscape park, past boggy meadows and streams, to the museum village, which consists of two colonists' houses, a smithy, a school from 1913, a historic wedding room, a barn, a shed and a bakehouse.
Large-scale peat cutting equipment, a frame saw and two fehn ships are also on display.
Other highlights are the bookable lessons in the school center and the guided tours through the museum.
