Schleuse Hooksiel

The sea lock in Hooksiel connects the North Sea with the tide-independent Hooksmeer. There is a wide range of water sports on offer here: the water ski lift and a surf school are just one part of it. The Hooksiel marina is also located here. In order for the boats to reach the marina from the North Sea, they have to pass through a lock.

Although the lock is particularly important for water sports enthusiasts, a visit to the structure is also a real experience for other guests.
 
In the lock chamber, the water level is raised or lowered so that pleasure craft and smaller vessels can overcome the different water levels of the North Sea and the Hooksmeer. This impressive process can best be observed from the seats to the side of the bascule bridge. During a lockage, the bridge is folded up so that sailing boats with their masts can also pass through the structure. The process is particularly exciting when many boats are in the lock chamber at the same time.
