Neither original nor fake: the six ships in the Papenburg open-air exhibition are faithful replicas made according to historical plans by Meyer Werft - metal models on a scale of 1:1, so to speak. They are moored on the canals in the city center and are reminiscent of the great tradition of shipbuilders, who designed the right vessel for every requirement. The "Katharina von Papenburg", for example, which lies in front of the Bockwindmühle, is a fast schooner or "tea clipper", which was used to transport perishable goods. For "Anna von Papenburg", on the other hand, speed was not important, as the Spitzmutte mainly loaded peat. In front of the town hall lies a proud brig and on the main canal typical vessels of the Wadden Sea with a shallow draught: a tjalk, a schmack and a kuff.
Note: It is also possible to tie the knot on the ship "Brigg Friederike". Further information can be obtained from the relevant city/municipality.
