Museumseisenbahn Küstenbahn Ostfriesland (MKO)

Heritage railway
Moor and light railway/museum railway
A red or sometimes a black diesel locomotive pulls the trains of the coastal railroad through East Frisia. The pace is leisurely, as the "Dornum" and "Köf" locomotives already have several decades behind them. They travel at 30 km/h in the hinterland of the North Sea coast for 17 kilometers from Norden via the historic market town of Hage to Dornum. The travel time is around 40 minutes (one way)

The route is part of the East Frisian Coast Railway, which ran from Emden via Norden and Wittmund to Jever at the end of the 19th century. But in 1983, the line came to an end and buses replaced passenger trains. In 1987, the Museumseisenbahn Küstenbahn Ostfriesland association was founded to preserve the memory of the heyday of the railroad in the region.

In addition to several locomotives, the association also owns a buffet car from 1928, two passenger cars from the 1930s and two freight cars from the 1920s. They not only run when the association launches the Küstenbahn Ostfriesland on Sundays in summer, but are also hired out for individual trips.
