Haus Hellmann

Historical city centre
Historical building
Today, the building houses a jeweler.
The second oldest house in the town, built under the influence of Osnabrück, is the Hellmann house at Burgstraße 13. This stately half-timbered house from 1641, with its four projecting gables and central pillar, was one of the first to be built immediately after the fortress was razed. The German and Latin gable inscriptions, the wheel-shaped carved ornaments and the decorative patterns made of bricks are interesting.

The inscription on the threshold of the upper floor reads:
HOW DO YOU STAND NARROW AND MASTER ME SO MUCH I AM GOING TO MY HOUSESTONE AS FAR AS I WANT TO HAVE IT WHOever WANTS TO BORROW HER AND NOT BEZALE HE SHALL STAY IN THE HOUSE MAN SHALL NOT HOLEN.
