Samson Mine in Sankt Andreasberg is one of the most important historic mining monuments in Europe. It was one of the deepest mines in the world for a long time.
Samson Mine is the last ore mine in the Upper Harz that is completely preserved.
Silver ore was mined at Samson Mine from 1521 to 1910.
In the Samson Mine there is a man engine. This is the kind of lift for the miners.
They used it to go into and out of the mine.
The man engine was invented in the Harz. This is the only one in the world that still works.
The main theme of the exhibition is "energy". In old times water wheels were used to power the man engine and the pumps in the mine. The exhibition shows you how that worked.
Almost all areas of the mine are suitable for people with limited mobility.
