Already developed in the USA in the 1970s, the trend sport spilled over to Germany a few years later. Rotenburg (Wümme) had a very successful Ultimate Frisbee team more than 40 years ago.
At the end of 2023, the disc golf course was inaugurated on the Heimathaus grounds and is open to all visitors to practise their accuracy. The course at the Heimathaus comprises nine lanes. The longest is 103 m.
How does disc golf actually work?
Instead of throwing a ball to the hole with a club as in golf, discs are thrown and have to land in a catch basket at the end of a course. The player who needs the fewest throws to complete the course is the winner. Disc golf can be played with standard Frisbees for beginners. However, so-called golf discs are recommended, which - similar to golf - are called "driver", "midrange" and "putter" and have different flight characteristics for long, medium or short distances.
Where can you buy and hire the discs?
The discs can be purchased as a set at Sporthaus Lehmann at the beginning of the pedestrian zone (near the town hall).
If you would like to try out this trend sport for the first time, you can borrow the discs for a deposit of €10 from Sporthaus Lehmann or from the tourist information office in the town hall.
The town of Rotenburg (Wümme) has had discs printed with the town logo especially for visitors. The round throwing object can be kept as a souvenir.

Die Kreisstadt Rotenburg (Wümme) ist sehr gut per Bahn erreichbar. Die Bahngesellschaft "metronom" bietet eine direkte Verbindung zwischen Hamburg und Bremen, mit Rotenburg (Wümme) als Zwischenstopp. Zudem verkehrt die EVB zwischen Verden und Rotenburg (Wümme), so dass auch eine unkomplizierte Anreise aus Hannover oder Minden möglich ist.
