Developed in the U.S. as early as the 1970s, this trendy sport spread
to Germany a few years later. More than 40 years ago, Rotenburg (Wümme) was home to a very successful Ultimate Frisbee team.
At the end of 2023, the disc golf course on the Heimathaus grounds was inaugurated and is now open to all visitors who want to practice their accuracy. The course at the Heimathaus comprises nine holes. The longest is 103 meters.
How does disc golf actually work?
Instead of using a club to hit a ball toward the hole, as in golf, players throw discs that must land in a catch basket at the end of each hole. The player who needs the fewest throws to complete the holes wins. Disc golf can be played with standard Frisbees when you’re just starting out. However, so-called golf discs are recommended, which—similar to golf—are called “drivers,” “midranges,” and “putters” and have different flight characteristics for long, medium, or short distances.
Where can you buy or rent discs?
Disc sets are available for purchase at Sporthaus Lehmann at the beginning of the pedestrian zone (near City Hall).
Anyone who wants to try their hand at this trendy sport and test their throwing skills for the first time can rent the discs for a deposit of 10 € at Sporthaus Lehmann or at the Tourist Information office in City Hall.
The city of Rotenburg (Wümme) has had discs printed with the city logo especially for visitors. You’re welcome to keep the round disc as a souvenir.

- Golf discs featuring the city logo can be borrowed and returned at the Tourist Information office in the pedestrian zone during the following hours for a deposit of 10 €:
- Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday: 9 a.m.–5:00 p.m.
- Friday: 9 a.m.–12:30 p.m.
You can purchase the discs at Sport-Lehmann in the pedestrian zone.

Die Kreisstadt Rotenburg (Wümme) erreichen Sie aus Bremen oder Hamburg kommend über die A 1 (Abfahrt Stuckenborstel) sowie B 75 (Ausfahrt Rotenburg Mitte). Wenn Sie aus Hannover anreisen, folgen Sie der A 27 (Abfahrt Verden Nord) und nehmen Sie die B 215 in Richtung Rotenburg (Wümme).
Mit Öffentlichen Verkehrsmitteln:
Die Kreisstadt Rotenburg (Wümme) ist sehr gut per Bahn erreichbar. Die Bahngesellschaft "metronom" bietet eine direkte Verbindung zwischen Hamburg und Bremen, mit Rotenburg (Wümme) als Zwischenstopp. Zudem verkehrt die EVB zwischen Verden und Rotenburg (Wümme), so dass auch eine unkomplizierte Anreise aus Hannover oder Minden möglich ist.
